Thinking I was purchasing an 87th precinct novel, I was initially disappointed when at commencing reading the book, I discovered it took place in Florida with Attorney Matthew Hope as the protagonist. As the novel opens we learn that Matthew is divorced and just entering the dating scene. He is on his way to watch singer Vicki Miller perform and then hopefully take her home for an evening of lovemaking. It mostly turns out as he planned except they end up at her home and when he gets ready to leave she indicates she is fearful of something and does not want him to leave.

He eventually does escape but the next morning he hears Vicki was viciously murdered shortly after he left. After proving it wasn't him, he forms a relationship with police detective assigned to the case and they jointly work to sort out who did it. While playing detective, Matthew is also holding up his side of his law firms various files which makes for some interesting reading. ( )
