Interesting plot. More intense than some of the others in the series - felt like more an adult plot at times. It was nice to see more of Bruce on an important mission. The relationship between Gabrielle and Michael was sweet. Lauren continues to make some stupid decisions and is punished. ( )

Mad Dogs Book Review
By: Lachlan Feurer

Hello my name is Lachlan Feurer and I am in the Class of 8I. The book I am reviewing for you is called “Mad Dogs” and it is written by Robert Muchamore. Like all books he has written, “Mad Dogs” is a fiction book and is set in the Town of Luton and violence spills onto the streets. Some characters in this book are Bruce Norris, Michael Hendry, Gabrielle O’Brien, Sasha Thompson, DeShawn (Major Dee) Andre and Junior Moore. The main character in this book is James Adams (age 15) who works for a secret organisation called “CHERUB” (A branch of British Intelligence). James is stocky, which makes him strong but also prone to weight gain as his mum was diabetic. He must run regularly and watch his diet to keep in shape. In combat he has shown reasonable aptitude in karate and judo classes, although his reflexes are not the fastest and James often struggles against nimbler opponents. Academically, James has an IQ of 153 and is brilliant at maths. However, he will not live up to his full potential until he learns to stop messing around in class. James likes Arsenal, motorbikes, FIFA soccer games, tenpin bowling and winding up his little sister. But his pet hates are mayonnaise, curry, Tottenham Hotspur, Big Brother and soap operas.
The orientation for “Mad Dogs” is Gabrielle O’Brien and Michael Hendry have infiltrated the Slasher Boys, a Jamaican rooted gang lead by Major Dee. Then on a delivery of Cocaine the Runts (another gang) rob the Slasher Boys of all their Cocaine and leave one Slasher Boy dead and Gabrielle in hospital with 3 knife wounds and fighting for life. This starts a turf war and violence explodes into the streets. James Adams and Bruce Norris are sent in to infiltrate the gang “Mad Dogs” lead by Sasha Thompson. CHERUB to get James to meet up with an old friend of his by the name of Junior Moore. James first met Junior in his second mission “Class A”. James and Bruce successfully infiltrate the gang because Sasha is looking out for Junior. As the mission moves on they slowly gather information and send it back to CHERUB.
The Major Events in “Mad Dogs”
• Gabrielle gets stabbed and is fighting for life in hospital
• Ethic Committee wants to pull the plug on the mission
• Mission controller wants 2 more agents
• Emergency meeting between the mission controllers, chairwoman, intelligence and prime minister and ethics committee.
• James Adams and Bruce Norris are sent in to infiltrate
• They successfully infiltrate the gang and slowly gather information
• Mad Dogs clubhouse attacked and burned down by Slasher Boys
• CHERUB find out about an informant on both sides
• CHERUB blackmail informant
• Informant help set up a trap using Major Dees monthly shipment of Cocaine at a warehouse as bait for both gangs
• Police think that Mad dogs will attack Slasher boys at the warehouse
• Police ready to arrest everyone including Major Dee and Sasha at the warehouse
• Instead Sasha goes to the airport and steals money of the UK government instead of rob the Slasher boys
• Runts attack the warehouse
• Major Dee flees
• Major gang war
• 4 people dead
• 15 people in hospital including 3 police officers
• No one the police wanted arrested
• Drugs missing(police think they were stolen by the informant
• Money from drug deal missing believed to be stolen by the runts

The resolution of this story - Bruce finds out about an informant which allows CHERUB to use to their advantage. Chloe Blake and John Jones visit this informant and blackmail set up a trap using warehouse where Major Dees monthly’s Cocaine gets delivered and the police have a plan to arrest everyone. James and Bruce get told that something is going down and James and Bruce are told to meet at the safe house. They meet the gang at a safe house and the Kruger brothers an old friend of Sasha’s get flown in from New Zealand. Instead of the Mad Dogs attacking the Slasher Boys they are headed to the airport to rob the UK government of 2.6 million dollars. Everything goes to plan at the airport but the warehouse goes pear-shaped. The Runts attack the warehouse and it turns into a bloodbath. From the warehouse 4 die and 15 people are admitted to hospital including 2 police officers. The drugs and money go missing and the police believe it has been robbed by the informant and the money stolen by the runts. At the airport the Mad Dogs plan worked brilliantly and they get away with 2.1 million as all the money was split between 5 cars because the police stop the car at a RBT. James and Michael both get arrested however Bruce is the only one who walks free. Michael, Bruce and James all go back to campus and the gang war simply get more aggressive.

I learnt by reading this book that gang wars are not just fake but they happen in real life in real cities and sometimes they spill onto the streets and gang members and innocent people die because of the wars. I really liked “Mad Dogs” because that you could never predict what would happen next and it really drew you in right from the start and never let you go. It had heaps of action and war and had little soft bits and they were nice otherwise it gets boring because of all the action and drama. There was nothing that I disliked about this book. The only thing I wondered about the story was that when the Slasher Boys burnt down the clubhouse why didn’t the Mad Dogs attack back but that was because the Mad Dogs didn’t have the numbers however Sasha sent in the Runts who outnumbered the Slasher Boys 2 to 1.I would definitely recommend this book other people as it is Punchy, Action Packed, Heart Stopping and, what’s more you completely you wish it was true so you could be part of it.
