I've re-read this book numerous times. I have to admit that in 2021 I find some of it very hard to believe and don't like it as much. And yet it was a favorite when I first read it in 1985 and I must have liked enough over the years to make it a keeper. It's still interesting because it's a very unique romance and the characters are interesting for a series romance, especially for its time period. The rating is based on when I first read it, not this latest reading - 2021. (

rabck box from bookstogive 11/09; New Yorker Carol rents a cabin in the Georgia mountans in the teensy town of Rock Ridge, where everyone knows everyone since birth. She's so not Raney's type - all the gals in town are air heads, and this one can lick him at pool and hold her own with the football penalty calls. And that intrigues him a bit.
The book shows it age - written in 1985, the characters smoke, drink and drive drunk - no problem and no worries. (

What do you get when you cross a New York city slicker with a beer-drinking, pool-shooting good old boy? The citizens of Rock Ridge, Georgia, couldn't rightly tell, what with all the fur flying. The hostilities commenced about the time Carol Jones tried to buy Raney Caitlin a drink -- as though any self-respecting man would let a woman pay his way!
