The Precepts of Mother Ann Lee and the Elders contains a brief sketch of Mother Ann Lee's life prior to journeying from England to the United States along with testimony of her early ministry and how her followers believed that she was the second coming of Christ. This volume reprints the original 1888 second edition from Weed, Parsons & Co. in Albany, NY. This primary source is a must read for those studying the history and impact of the Shakers. Those with a casual interest will find it relatively easy reading for the nineteenth century, especially as each chapter reads as a short vignette, despite the tendency to use run-on sentences common to the period.
