"It was a wooden box, simply made. 'I guess you could call it my war chest,' Grandpa said. As the children peered into the box, they saw many small figures-animals, people, and objects of all kinds. A number of them were carved from wood." Learn along with Marc and Amy as Grandpa shares his stories of the great war we are all fighting. See how his special box of wooden carvings illustrates the wonderful stories of the Bible. Starr Meade, the author of the popular Training Hearts, Teaching Minds, takes children to a deeper understanding of God's plan of redemption told throughout all of Scripture. Reading level: Ages 9-12. Grandpa's Box is a redemptive-historical reading of the Bible expressed at a children's level and creatively presented in the form of a grandfather's conversations with his grandchildren. Grandpa takes advantage of the children's curiosity at the diverse items in his "war chest", making each item into a visible focal point for teaching the story of redemption. Grandpa's retelling of God's own great "war story" unites all the familiar Bible stories into the message of Christ's great victory over Satan. It is rare to find Christian children's literature that does not treat Bible stories like isolated moral lessons; Grandpa's Box is an excellent counter to this trend. It will surely aid many parents in bringing their children to a saving understanding of the Bible and the Gospel. Recommended for ages 9-12, this title could be used effectively by a parent with younger children.

Author Starr Meade takes kids through the Bible emphasizing God's plan for redemption rather than just stories about bible characters. Grandpa tells the two kids (aged 8 and 10) stories from his box of carved characters. This is great theology in a way that kids can understand it, but not dumbed down. This would be great for homeschooling, or reading together as a family. ( )

Really good Biblical Theology - tracing the progress of redemption - for young minds.

A good supplement to the Bible for parents and instructors of elementary aged children that helps them navigate the deep waters of Scripture and see how the whole story holds together in a coherent message of God's redeeming love demonstrated graciously in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Very easy read and the author does a good job with memorable illustrations to hold your attention and amplify the truth being expounded. ( )
