★★★★★ Fear the Darkness by Sherrilyn Kenyon book 11.5 in Dark Hunter Series(also found in Vook)

So Fear the Darkness is the story of ow nick came to be a DH and hate Acheron. In the beginning they were best friends. Then one fateful night nick has sex with The Simi. Unknown to him, she is Ash's kind of daughter. All hell breaks lose. Then Cherise, Nick's mom, gets killed, and since Acheron is a god, nick expects him to save her life and bring her back. This pisses off Nick, and he calls out Artemis. When she refuses to grant him vengeance, since he is alive, he shots his head of in front of her. Out of fear, of Acheron's reaction, she makes him a DH, but as punishment, she put his bow and arrow DH mark right on his cheek, like a slap in the face. When he comes back to N.O., he visits the family mausoleum. He finds his Aunt Menyara, who keeps calling him Ambrosius, which confuses him. She also said not to hate Ash, that they are not all that different, and she knows exactly what he is. He begins to not hate Ash, as much. But how will Nick do as a DH? Or whatever he is, since he is a day walker. ( )

This is a teaser story of Nick, and describes him coming home to New Orleans. This story happens after Ravyn and Susan's book, "Dark Side of the Moon". That is the book where Savitar releases Nick to Ravyn to train. Somewhere in that book Nick trots off and no one cares much because of his attitude. Nick's story, as an adult, has been happening since the start of the Dark Hunters, so only a Dark Hunter reader would care about this little morsel at all. If you are not reading through the series, skip this story/essay(about the length). I don't know where Nick's story plays out or whether he will get a book, I suspect the later since his teenage life is being told in a series of its own, but this really didn't add anything for me that could not have been added into the next book involving Ash or Nick. It is nice to see inside of Nick's head but the cliffhanger makes me say, hold out and read this before the book where Nick and Ash come to terms or have it out. ( )

A very short short-story about Nick. It was OK, but I wish there was a little more. I also hope that Nick will eventually be able to let go of all his hatred. ( )
