Arnold Lobel has written a book of Rhymes about cats that is truly entertaining for all. All the Rhymes have different stories but they are cute and will help children to learn of poetry through the use of cats with whiskers. Not only will the children love these rhymes the parents will too. ( )

My London Bridge has just one task,
It has to stand...that's all I ask.
It has to stand and that is all,
It may not bend or break or fall.

Lobel is such a joy. They should just call his books "pseudo-children" books, because it's really the adults who have so much fun with them. You know, like pretending to go to Disneyland for the "kids". Right.

The illustrations are the wonderful Lobel style, softly colored and teasingly rounded. The Whiskers of the book are cats, who form all of the characters. This is a sweet book to enjoy with the family and it's funny how quickly the rhymes catch on with everyone. I think my favorite was about the old woman who sewed the wind against the clouds, "to stop the trees from bending".

Her thimble and threads were close at hand
For needlework and quilting.
For sewing gardens to the sky
To keep the blooms from wilting,
For lacing the land to the crescent moon
To save the world from tilting.

Book Season = Year Round (it'll stick in your head)
