In his introduction, Kevin Smith explains that this is a repurposed story from a failed pitch to HBO Max that was to reboot an old DC Comics character, probably the Question based on a nod to Steve Ditko and all the emphasis on mask technology, though it incorporates some some strong Creeper vibes as well. If this end result still has much similarity to the original pitch, I can certainly see why HBO passed.

This is a dreary, sludgy, and unoriginal revenge drama. A mysterious woman returns to a seedy town where, as orphans, she and her brother were subject to a secret and cruel human experimentation project that exploited a special ingredient from deep in the Amazon rainforest with tremendous healing capabilities to instead create the ultimate face lift for senior citizens. She uses the same technology to now take down those who profited from the misery they caused.

The script is sloppy and ridiculous. The art is a bit stiff, as if too heavily photo-referenced, with a couple of characters looking a lot like Helen Mirren and Rush Limbaugh, for instance,

The next volume is the conclusion, and though I didn't much enjoy this one, I'll probably pick that one up just to see how it ends. I am a Kevin Smith completist, after all, even though he sometimes lets me down.
