Written as if it was a diary of a Lakota girl, and illustrated on every page with faux sepia-toned photographs within a colorful border, one could bellieve this was a true story. The authors clearly state, however, that it is fiction. It is a story that could be true, about a type of person who is unlikely to have her history actually recorded.
It is a beautiful and hopeful story for children to read, presenting the lifeways of the Lakota during the years of change (late 1800's) and also suggesting that women could be photographers! ( )
