Think the devil wears prada and vampires. If you can make it past the first 50 or so pages then the book really picks up. A young woman who has been working as an EMT gets a job as an intern at a fashion magazine. Her mother used to be a fashion designer but disappeared when she was in her teens. Everyone seems to hate her at her new job other than the managing editor who seems to have a strange fascination with her. There are numerous rumors that their are vampires working for the magazine. There have been a few "fashion murders" in the recent past. Thing start to take a turn for the young lady as well as the book when someone's pet chihuahua is found drained of blood in a storage closet. Then a young woman is found in a dressing room at a high fashion boutique who apparently od'd or did she? A fun read overall and good if you like fashion. ( )

The only word I can think of is shallow. Fashion is shallow at the best of times - unfortunately so is this particular novel. The idea was fun but just lacks any reason for me to get involved in the story. ( )

When they say page-turner they really mean it! This book is funny, intelligent, and sexy. I loved must of the character even Lilian Hall. They only bit I didn't like was Kate chasing after James. Other than that the book gets two thumbs up. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0307352137, Paperback)

When nice-girl Kate McGraw finds herself working at Tasty, a magazine with its finger on the pulse of modern style, she’s finally able to put her flair for fashion to good use. But can she keep up with the Tasty staffers? Ethereally beautiful and extremely emaciated, they stay out all night, never look the worse for wear, and are always dressed to kill.

Like everyone else around the office, Kate finds herself begrudgingly reading dispatches from a snarky industry blog that dubs her colleagues “bloodthirsty vamps.” She knows they don’t mean it literally, but . . . she’s heard whispers of “fashion murders” and she has noticed strange things around the office: Like, why doesn’t her boss get laminates to fix her sharp teeth? Why are the blinds always drawn, and why is there a no-garlic policy in the cafeteria?

As well-dressed bodies begin to pile up near all the hot places, Kate has to wonder if there’s a serial killer loose with a grudge against the stylish. Or if the truth is even more sinister: Are Kate’s coworkers actually undead? And, if so, can she design an exit strategy before she finds herself at Tasty forever?

"The Devil may wear Prada, but real fashion taste is in the blood ...When Kate gets offered an internship at top New York fashion mag Tasty, everyone tells her she's the luckiest girl alive. But it's not long before the office politics get to her. Her fellow interns are bitchy, her superiors are backstabbing, and she's constantly getting it in the neck from her chilly boss Lillian. But when people start to go missing, Kate starts to realise that there's something funny going on at Tasty. Why is everyone uniformly condescending, black-clad and emaciated? Doesn't anyone sleep? How come they all have such sharp teeth? Are they ...vampires? Armed with a stake, a crucifix, and James the cute photo assistant, Kate sets off for a showdown -- only to realise that she's more out of her depth than a homeless person in Hermes. Starting your first job may be difficult, but working at Tasty is draining. Literally ... " -- BOOK JACKET… (more)
