Couldn't quite make my mind up on this. It was well written and plotted, although the final plot twist seemed to stretch credibility a little too far. I also found it a little hard to believe that a Deputy Chief Constable would be so close to front-line action as Skinner. Finally there seemed to be an awful lot of characters and keeping track of who they all were and their relation to the plot could be a bit challenging. I'll try some of his other books. ( )

Skinner series #15. Albanian gangsters infiltrate Edinburgh's underworld. Then the son of a police officer is found dead near Edinburgh castle. And Skinner has a battle with the new First Minister over who really runs the police force. While Skinner's private life is something of a soap opera, I enjoy the series very much. It's good suspenseful escape reading, with plenty of Edinburgh local colour. ( )
