The informational book is a picture book for middle school children that gives specific and factual information about the butterflies. This is an easy to read book that gives facts about butterflies. There are pop up three dimensional butterflies that would help students to identify certain butterflies on each page with flaps that open to additional butterflies. The pictures are realistic and beautiful.
The language that it is written in is interesting. This is a great introduction for students when studying about the world in science. There is a lot of information about what are protective factors, butterfly body part names, location, stages.
Some extensions to reading this book would to get a butterfly hatchery and let the students watch the different stages of the butter fly. The students could also pick a specific king and use the internet to find additional information. With the report the students could draw a picture of their butterfly or some other interesting insect that they choose.
