Genre: modern fantasy
It is a great example of fantasy because it would not be possible for animals to think, talk, and feel human emotions in the real world. Even though these aspects of the story cannot be true, children can still relate to the feelings that the animals have about being sad when something is lost and rejoicing when it returns again. In addition, the context of the story is believable, as farms, orchards, and storms all exist in the real world. I bet lower elementary students would enjoy it a lot! ( )

A little goat loved his orchard. He ate the apples every day and spit the seeds over the hedge. One day a storm had come upon the farm and destroyed his beloved trees. The animals were sad but the seasons soon changed. Soon little tree buds began to sprout over the hedge! Did the little goat save the orchard? ( )

Summary:
It's about a little ordinary goat lives in a farm but loves to eat apples and cherries in the orchard sometimes. Every time after it eating the fruits, it would send a shower of pits and seeds over the hedge. Once a storm toppled every single tree and the orchard that little apple goat loved so much was gone. All the animals were very sad and the farmer came to take the logs away. After the winter, the spring came and one day the little apple goat found there were some bright and flowery peeking over the hedge and one day, the blossoms were gone and new fruit hung from the branches. All the animals were very happy to have a new orchard but only did the little apple goat knew how it came.

It is a animal fantasy since the story happened in a non-realistic animal world created by the author. All the animals in this world had their own thoughts and acted like human.

Critiques:
1. The media of this book are water color and ink. All the images are cute animals and other creatures in the nature.
2. The language in this book is clear and easy to understand by students aged from 3~6.
3. The ending of this book is out of expectation which may cheer students a lot.

Comments on use:
1. Good for teachers to read aloud on reading class.
2. The teacher can ask student why the new orchard comes in the new autumn. ( )
