Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledging vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series" in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little blood lust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey's horrid-step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth.… (more)

That Loren sub plot was GROSS. like holy gross adult man preying on a highschool student. just GROSS. and even the imprint with heath is icky - WAY too much power differentials there that are ACTUALLY being taken advantage of. But again, i guess its just a sign of the times it was written in .. ( )

Recuerdo que me lo leí de un tirón en toda una mañana. Hasta ese momento había sido el mejor libro de lo que iba de la saga. ( )

I read this book in less than a night it was pretty decent and fast paced. There is a bit more character development happpening -not much though- its one of them books where you know what is going to happen, but because you dont like the main character -not sure whether thats the authors intention or not- you just want to read about her getting f***ed over. -Litterally- and she deserved it.
The whole boyfriend thing gets completely dropped near the end giving us a better start to the next book Untamed. ( )

The writing was slangy and annoying, and the main character and her pals ceased to appeal to me. Goodbye forever, PC Cast. ( )

This third installment of the House of Night series starts to feel a little preachy in its declaration of the heroine's personal values and opinions: I have, after all, listened to the exact same sentiments for three freaking books now. For much the same reason---that is, my experience of the previous two books---my tolerance for the heroine's idiotic decisions and lovelorn melodrama began to wear thin.

Yes, I know you're a teenager, Zoey, and yes, I know the plot requires some stupidity on your part to move forward, but really? Do I have to keep reading as you willfully indulge in all manner of selfish vanity and lust? Have you no self control? Maybe not. And maybe that's okay, but it definitely doesn't make me care what happens to you.

And yet somehow by the end of the book, once Zoey Got Hers, I found myself still caring enough about the other characters to want to read the next book. I'm just hoping that next book brings something a little new to the table. ( )

"Yep, I have a seriously sucky birthday." I told my cat, Nala. (Okay, truthfully she's not so much my cat as I'm her person. You know how it is with cats, they don't really have owners, they have staff. A fact I mostly try to ignore.)
