One of the few books to consider the very personal, yet also public, matter of married Jewish women covering their hair, Hide and Seek explains the law, considers the customs surrounding the practice, and includes the voices of women from around the world who are moved by the nature of this challenging observance. The book includes legal and sociological perspectives of the practice, citing relevant texts and rabbinic discourse, as well as the history, tradition, and customs of Jewish communities from around the world. Twenty-four personal essays from women on this sensitive issue lend a very personal face to the debate. No library descriptions found. |

I actually stopped for awhile as I didn't find this command directly in Torah. However, I do see the modesty benefits when I do cover---it also helps remind me of how I am to exhibit a meek and quiet spirit. I've recently begun covering again and have been sewing coverings to sell in my Etsy shop.
One of the chapters I really liked was chapter 10: Why I Wear a Hat. The author talks about how her covering identifies her to people with similar convictions. I feel this same way about the covering, as well as the tzitziot. ( )
