I've been a fan of the term "voting with your dollars" since 2002 when I heard it on a kpfa program. It basically means buy what you believe in. If you shop at Walmart, then you are supporting their business practices by giving them your hard earned cash.
So today at the library I happened upon the book The Rough Guide to Shopping with a Conscience. It is fantastically thorough in explaining how our actions as consumers affect the world around us.
So maybe we all know this statistic, but I thought it was a good reminder:

Gallons of water required to produce 1 pound of food:
Potatoes 60
Wheat 110
Maize 170
Rice 230
Soy Beans 240
Chicken 420
Beef 12,000

Who wants a hamburger?
