(même si Keifer Sutherland n'est pas en elle) -- In English I picked this up while in Paris several years back and while I knew the story from the films, I found reading it in the original French to be quite a thrilling ride. I am always leery of reading translations. Even though many are done amazingly well, I've discovered that something intrinsic is often lost unless the translator is really good at their work. Personally I think spanish literature suffers the most from this malady in the western hemisphere. This is a wonderful story and an excellent start to this series, one day I'll get around to reading it in English. I'm hoping it will be just as exciting! (even if Keifer Sutherland isn't in it) Such books can't have a proper intelligent and weighted rating. It's pure classic to read in that right teen age and open the world of high adventure with it. It's like a first girlfriend in some sense of wordplay :). Probably that is why I re-read this book many times but couldn't even finish continuations (or any other Dumas book for that matter). One can't enter the same river twice. This book definitely shows it's age, everyone is super dramatic and emotional, the gentlemen drink wine like water, the servants are being threatened and abused, and all ladies are either saints or cunning devils. Won't read again, won't read any sequels, would only recommend if you like very... slow... melodrama.
