This story was essentially Bible fanfic. That is fine (I love the stuff), except that it was actually pretty uninspired Bible fanfic. Now, that may be because it's a progenitor of all the good Bible fanfic that's out there, but even so, I was disappointed. It's a short story, and not at all painful to read, but I was hoping for it to end with more of a bang or moment of insight than it did; I don't think I gained anything more from the story than the ability to reference it in pleasant company.
