Odysseus is the story of a Greek hero and his adventures. Homer, the Greek poet from around 800BC, wrote a poem about Odysseus adventures. The poem is called the Odyssey.
This book tells the stories of Odysseus’ wisdom, the Trojan War, Polyphemus the Cyclopes. It also tells about the Greek gods the hindered and helped Odysseus’ return home.
I picked this book to read as I did not know a great deal about Greek mythology and wanted to see what could be offered to children. This book is well written, the Greek names are spelt phonically after the name so that the readers learn the proper pronunciation of the more difficult names. The pictures are beautiful and are about Odysseus’ adventures. The map at the back of the book helps the reader put where Odysseus sailed. Also at the back of the book, there is information about internet sites that can be accessed to find more information about the subject. I would definitely recommend this book, especially in a school setting. ( )
