Nothing is quite so difficult as to ride herd on a 74-year-old man with a lot of ginger, a penchant for solving murder cases and a sense of mischief, at least if you are 24 (as I am) and work for him as a leg man, secretary, chauffeur and whatnot. The "whatnot" turned out to be critical. I thought the job ideal a great place to live, a decent salary, and work that would be interesting. All went well until I fell in love with Katherine Monroe and got up to my navel in bodies. The rich are different they kill a lot. My brother-in-law, Lieutenant Robert Campbell of the Ben Nevis Homicide Division, bears up under his friend Simon Fraser's penchant for secrecy, because the old man: "figures it all out, one way or another." Bob isn't proud, he just wants solutions. Still, Simon can be a royal pain you-know-where. It all started when somebody buried a plain old knife, once used by Cesare Borgia, into the chest of Audrey Vannelle. It was selected from three cases of jewel-studded equals. Why?
