With the exception of the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland, perhaps no other golf course in the entire world has as unique a history as Pebble Beach Golf Links on California's Monterey Peninsula. Thanks to Neal Hotelling's Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official History, that story has now come to light. And it's a colorful one, to say the least. From its original creation in 1919 as a mere resort facility, to its annual selection today as one of the top 3 courses in the world, Pebble Beach has clearly come a long way. In between, it has been the site of several major golf championships and the playground of movie stars and multi-millionaires. Yet, amazingly, this stunningly beautiful golf course - much of it set along the Pacific Ocean - has remained open to the public from the beginning. Like all great battlefields, Pebble Beach has many stories to tell. They're all here, and they're all complemented by vintage photos and contemporary photography by Joann Dost.
