Fantasy. Fiction. HTML:

Between attending gala fundraisers for her husband's political campaign, training her teenage daughter to wield a crossbow and a stiletto, pottytraining a toddler, and her increasingly complicated personal life, Kate Connor hardly has time to prepare for the impending chaos of a neighborhood Easter party that has her enslaved to dying hundreds of hard-boiled eggs. Keeping the local kiddos in line will take all of Kate's skills as a mother and demon hunter, just when she'll need them the most. The High Demon Goramesh has returned to San Diablo-this time with a full-blown army of the undead and a powerful demonic ally. Once again, it's up to Kate to save the world. Good thing she can multi-task.

I started reading this series nearly a decade ago, and I loved it. Then I took a long (long, looooong) break between books 3 and 4, and when I came back to the series, I found it had lost its appeal. It was still fun and engaging, the heroine as feisty as I remembered… But this time around it all seemed too fluffy and farfetched, and I found myself craving a little bit more reality. The irony is that back when I loved this series, I was a newlywed in college. Now, I’m a work-at-home mom - much closer to Kate Conner than I was a decade ago. Maybe that’s the problem. I found myself rolling my eyes much too often, and I wanted to hear more about Timmy’s eating and sleeping habits than Kate’s latest encounter with the undead in her back yard. The fault doesn’t lie with the book at all - it’s totally me. I’m in a completely different place now, and this series just doesn’t connect with me anymore. ( )

plenty of action. intense plot and good storyline. the demon hunting continues in book 4 with a new and old foes. some secrets are revealed while others remain behind sealed lips. death and destruction reign. the marriage is challenged and the family is threatened in more than one way. ( )

I guess I just wasn't in the right frame of mind for this book at this point in time. I tried to get into it and ended up just returning it to the library.

I love this series. It makes demon-hunting easy to read and apparently it can be done while raising kids and having dinner parties. ( )

YAWN! Gratefully this is the last one I will read, it almost puts me off picking up anything else by this author. It's trying too hard to be something else, trying to create a new genre within urban fantasy/paranormal romance. As I've suggested before, I'd much rather read a book from her daughter's angle. ( )
