Religion & Spirituality. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. The great classic work, A Course in Miracles, is devoted to teachings about who we are, our relationships to God and with each other, and the actually mental nature of our bodies and the world. There are three constituent parts to the Course: The Text, a Workbook for Students, and the Manual for Teachers. The Text lays out the theoretical foundation for the metaphysical system of the Course. The Workbook contains a series of 365 Lessons to be practiced daily for the purpose of retraining the mind and healing our perception. Finally, the Manual contains information for and about advanced teachers of God. A Course in Miracles is also about miracles, which students understand to be, in part, a shift in perception to healed vision. But miracles are more than a shift in perception, because the shift has consequences in the world as we see it. The conversational tone of this Original Edition invites the novice student into conversation with the Author, and even advanced students of A Course in Miracles have found a new clarity and a deeper understanding from their study of the Original Edition of the Course. The restoration of the previously lost material and presentation of the text in its original sequence enlivens the conversation with the Author and gives him a presence that some feel is lacking in the later editions. When encountering Schucman and Thetford's original edition, students frequently find fresh clarity as they read its wording or new understanding. Surely study of the Original Edition is essential to your curriculum.… (more)

I have not completed the course yet, but I have been working on it for several months now. Already it has radically changed my perceptions. It proposes a way of saving ourselves and all those around us from the heaviness of our egos. It explains how to raise yourself out of ego perceptions, which is huge because as much as we might want to love our neighbor, we don't exactly know how to do it. This course teaches you a practical way to do that. It is truly life altering. With that said, there are parts that are difficult to read. Dr. Schucman did not always word things in easy to understand terms. I think this might turn some people off, but I would encourage you to stick with it because there are some incredible ah-ha moments in this text. This lessons are really useful too, especially as you get a little further along in them. I have never read any self-help book as awesome as this one, if it can truly be classified it as self-help. Those familiar with the editions of A Course in Miracles previously available will find this edition of the Urtext manuscripts substantially different, especially in the early chapters of the Text volume, due to the fact that it is far closer to the original dictation, having been typed by the Scribes before most of the subsequent editing and abridgement took place.
