Have you ever known someone who was shy but took the spotlight on the intercom?
Ruby is an eight year old girl and her and she three brothers move into a new town. Ruby has to go to school with her older brothers Roosevelt, Marcellus and Tyner. Ruby takes the spot light at the school. The main character Ruby Booker was a shy girl before she came to the school her brothers went to. ( )

This book could be used to introduce chapter books to a girl. Ruby is a very cute character that many girls can relate to. ( )

Kearsten says: Ruby worries that her first day at her new school will be overshadowed by her superstar older brothers, but she persists in trying to find ways to shine all on her own.

This isn't a deep book - Ruby's whole desire is to show her classmates (and school, if possible) that she can sing, and she's set on finding a way to show it, despite her three brothers' interruptions. However, this would be a good choice for 2nd-3rd grade girls. ( )
