We Have won the War is allegedly main event in the actual outlook of our arts. This book presents the Franco-Bourgeoisie in Barcelona in the 4s and 5s through the memories of the author since she was a three-years old when Franco's troops entered Barcelona, until her twentieth birthday, when she leaves the Falange and realizes she does not belong to the camp of the victorious where she was educated. Ha sido una lectura agradable y entrañable, además de relevante sobre las vidas de los hijos de la burgesía (y entre los escritores de la Posguerra hay muchos) que abandonaron las creencias de sus familias para alinearse con la izquierda.
I picked this book up for its theme, the memoirs of Esther Tusquets, a Spanish writer from the Postwar period, of her childhood in a well-off Barcelona family of supporters of Franco. Tusquets, like many of the writers of the time, eventually turned to the left and protested Franco's goverment. This transformation is the subject of this book, in which Tusquets passes from the band of the conquerors to the conquered. Though not entirely impartial, Tusquets presents her story with criticism, but without remorse, leaving one with the the impression that, though they may be guilty of some reprehensible acts, her family (and herself) are not to be demonized. A quick read and a highly interesting portrait of the writer and the time period. ( )
