The aliens were smarter, tougher and meaner. All they were missing was a star drive. When an Earth ship enters a star system that should have been devoid of life, the crew discovers millions of aliens living in small space habitats. And if these strange creatures manage to steal Earth's faster-than-light drive technology, they will make Machiavelli look like a kindergartner. I enjoyed this much more than the silly cover led me to believe. A great 'First Contact' novel, with efforts at diverse representation at thought. Amazon should make it into a five season series. ( )

one of the better sci fi titles I have read as it integrated a surprising number of human disciplines into the core of the structure

I love Rick Cook's fiction, and couldn't wait to dig in to this book. Limbo System is much more serious than his other work however, with very little of Cook's usual puns. A relatively typical man-finds-superior-aliens setting, with a lot of politics and multiple layers of intrigue and sabotage. The most interesting twist to me was the favorable portrayal of how aliens might receive Christianity. ( )
