It's the last day of term. Three lads are clearing out their lockers and organising a sleepover. But things aren't what they seem. One boy's father is a member of Dark Sun, a criminal organisation dealing in nuclear weapons technology, while another is a CHERUB agent sent to stop him.

Fits in between the novels, "Mad Dogs" #9 and "Sleepwalker" #10. Last day of term and 3 boys get into trouble with their antics. One of those boys is Greg, better known as Rat to his fellow Cherubs. He is on a mission and is invited to a sleepover that is planned at the house of George, one of his new friends. The father of George is a suspected contact for a criminal organisation selling nuclear weapons technology to terrorists.
Once inside the house, Greg and fellow Cherub Andy have limited time to thwart the criminals plans. ( )

It’s a nice tightly written adventure, with some witty juvenile humour, aimed squarely at the teenage boys market (although it will appeal to girls as well as there are some strong female roles in the series), and doesn’t have any major spoilers for those new to the series (in fact the only real spoilers are a couple of the characters and the roles they play). And that’s the only thing that lets the book down, it really only going to appeal mostly to readers already familiar to the books and happy (even looking forward to) reading the book anyway.

As a mini-book released for World Book Day, I did not have high hopes. I was wrong. This is a good introduction to the CHERUB series showing the main characters engaging in a typical 'mission'. Yet, in addition to being a good introduction it also provided for the already established fans of the series, by allowing the main character in the series to take a back seat and giving other, more minor characters a chance to shine. Despite a few spoilers for those who will pick up 'The Recruit', this mini-book provides an entertaining read for both new readers, and aficionados. ( )
