This book is a bit dated now, since it was first published in 1990. The chapter on the Russian Campaign, for example, provides a useful overview and a nice summary of the ever shrinking options open to the Germans, but it does predate the opening of the Soviet archives and Glantz' tremendous output, as well as Tooze's quite different analysis on the reasons Hitler chose to invade Russia. Nevertheless, these are very useful and well written intros to the campaigns it covers. The 3.5 stars is purely due to the books age (and therefore the dated-ness of the chapters), and has nothing to do with the quality of individual entries. ( )
