Enzensberger si sdoppia in un romanzo in forma di dialogo fra una anziana cantante ed un giovane ricercatore universitario, in cui si parla di Dio, del mondo, delle cose e degli uomini ma soprattutto della memoria e del passato (che sembra voglia perdersi e sparire senza lasciare traccia).
La trama è, tutto sommato, secondaria (a parte il finale a sorpresa). Sono centrali e forti i personaggi della vecchia signora (una citazione da Josefine la cantante, ultimo racconto di Kafka), la sua silenziosa governante Fryda/Freida (che rappresenta essa stessa fisicamente la storia con cui fare i conti) ed il giovane ricercatore, spettatore quasi inconsapevole della rappresentazione che Josefine incarna.
Un concentrato di perle (letterarie e filosofiche) direttamente estratte dalla Weltanschauung di Enzensberger. ( )
