OK, an extra star for... well meaning, for being part of my history.

Other than that, sorry Matthew: This is poorly written, disorganized and mostly doesn't have a strong idea of what it's about. It would have been better if this book claimed to be what it actually is: a history of Sneaky Feelings. However, I agree with Shayne Carter on his comment on this book: "Too much Sneaky Feelings".

I lived in Dunedin, New Zealand through the glory years of the "Dunedin Sound": jangly guitars, self-obsessed lyrics, gloomy songs for freezing southern flats. Matthew Bannister's band Sneaky Feelings didn't quite fit the template, a soul music influence subverting the jangle. "Positively George Street" is the history of a musical movement seen through the eyes of a band stuck somewhere near its periphery. It's as much about failure and disillusionment as it is about the music the band made. The slightly sour tone makes the book uncomfortable reading at times, but adds a bracing air of stale beer and old socks to the traditional rock-band bio. ( )
