E' per i lettori non iniziati alle problematiche filosofiche e alle dispute scientifiche che Schopenhauer ha scritto questi aforismi sulla saggezza del vivere posti in chiusura al primo volume dei Parerga e paralipomena. Un libro per tutti, quindi dove l'esperienza di una vita e di un sapere si distilla in ragionamenti e consigli sulla felicità. Partendo dalle definizioni basilari di "ciò che uno è", "ciò che uno ha", "ciò che uno rappresenta", il grande filosofo tedesco fornisce gli insegnamenti per raggiungere quella che egli definisce l'"arte di condurre un'esistenza il più possibile piacevole e felice". Oltre a rappresentare un modo stimolante per accostarsi al pensiero di una delle grandi figure della nostra cultura, gli Aforismi, scritti in maniera semplice e brillante, arricchiti di rimandi culturali e letterari alla filosofia occidentale e orientale, testimoniano il fascino che la scrittura di Schopenhauer esercita ancora sul lettore moderno.
