The three friends of this story are all looking for love - one has never found "the one", one thinks the grass is greener, and one is holding onto a guy better kicked to the curb. I enjoyed watching each one work out romantic happiness - if only it were that easy in real life! But Ms. Mansell is always good for a feel-good escape from reality. ( ) Three close friends make their New Year resolutions. Liza, who gets bored with men within a few weeks, would like to get married. Pru, whose husband is a womanising drunk, is determined to stay married. And Dulcie, whose husband Patrick is a very likeable and good-looking guy, wants a divorce. He works too hard and she feels neglected. The book follows their year, and their love-lives, with several lively sub-plots as we learn whether or not each of them achieves her resolution. Classic chick-lit, I suppose, with rather shallow people and loose morals... and yet, I kept reading, and found myself warming to all three of the main characters before the end. Three and a half stars, really. A book I wasn't convinced I'd continue reading until I discovered one of the main characters was Irish. Perfectly timed with my participation in the 2012 Ireland Reading Challenge I carried on to completion. Unlikely romantic escapades of 3 friends who share their New Year wishes with each other, then live them out 'til the next New Year. Definitely a chick lit read with main focus on their sex lives. Any women with lives that frivolous need to wake up to reality.. which they seem to by conclusion of book, but a lot of drivel to read through to get there. The country club's Irish tennis pro, Liam, was a womanizer that one of our protagonists happily welcomed into her life until she accepted the unhappy truth of who he really was. She would have done well to adhere to Maya Angelou's adage, "when someone shows you who they are, believe them the 1st time"! Thankfully, the story rolls along to a better conclusion for each of our sorry stars.. a bit of redemption for the reading time invested. Perhaps a "grass is greener.." expose? and thankfully, they each discover that reality in time to change their ways! no reviews | add a review
Readers of Sophie Kinsella and Elin Hilderbrand will love this perfect vacation read from Jill Mansell, New York Times and #1 international bestselling author of Maybe This Time! New Year's resolutions never go according to plan... Liza wants to get married, Dulcie wants a divorce, and Pru wants things in her relationship to stay exactly the same. Those are the New Year's resolutions these three best friends have vowed to keep this year. But if you want to change your mind about your resolutions-and who doesn't?-you probably shouldn't have told your closest pals. Regardless of good intentions and best-laid plans, every effort to help each other only gets things more mixed up. Fortunately for all concerned, Fate has got a few tricks of her own in store...
