There are very many holes in this book and very many problems, but I'm four starring it because of the absolute delight I felt in reading this book. I've had a weird thing in the past year or so where I don't read books in bed anymore, to the extent that if I need to get a book read I will intentionally plan to do something far away so I have a long subway period of time to read it. But I got home last night and curled up in bed with this book, and that was such a nice feeling, and one that I've been missing. It's oh so very 2008 and hasn't aged spectacularly, but the heart is still there and I had a marvellous time being sucked in their world. ( ) It took a little while to get into this book, but by the middle of it, I didn't want to put it down. The premise is nothing new, but the author's characterizations and sensational scenes and crisp dialogue make it fresh. My only regret is I couldn't finish it in a week and I have to return it to the library for the next patron on hold. I'm not sure at this point whether or not I will purchase it. Ugh. Annoying. As it is officially Summer I have started my stack of beach/girl/fluff reads among my normal/more thought provoking books. The summer did not get off to a very good start with this book. The characters were stupid/unbelievable, and the plot not nearly as fun or well written as Devil Wears Prada, which I LOVE. Like a badly written spin off/want to be Sex and the City. Dumb. It took me a while to get into this book because it is yet another story about fabulous female friends in New York City who like to hang out with each other and discuss their sex lives. There are only three of them: one of them is a [b:control freak|665738|Control Freak|Christa Faust|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1176923519s/665738.jpg|3254], one of them sleeps with a lot of men, and one of them is itching to get married and have children (sounds a bit like Sex and the City sans Carrie Bradshaw doesn't it?). But once I got over that, I was hooked. The characters are flawed and interesting, not everything that happens to them is predictable, and I particularly liked how one of the characters was a high powered editor of high-brow literature who still enjoyed reading chick lit :) no reviews | add a review
