Once in a generation, a new ork leader emerges, one mighty enough to unite the clans and unleash armies millions strong upon the Imperium of Man. The green-skinned orks are the most warlike race in the blood-soaked galaxy of the 41st millennium. Cruel, crude and brutally barbaric, their unflinching passion for violence is so unquenchable that ork clans spend as much time warring with each other as they do with their enemies. And yet, once in a generation, a new ork leader will emerge, mighty enough to lay waste to his rivals and unite the clans, unleashing armies millions strong upon mankind. Destiny beckons, and it is from the ranks of the Blood Axe clan that the next call will be answered...… (more)

BOOM! Comics second Warhammer 40,000 anthology “Blood and Thunder” is the direct antithesis to everything the novel “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell” is about. Where JSAMN deals with English society, balls, garrulous acquaintances and magic fairies, “Blood and Thunder” deals primarily with the Orks of the far future where there is only war. There’s not a fairy in sight when continents are set ablaze in a vicious Waugh that encapsulates our human hero within the Orks vile clutches. Yes, the story was severely lacking and the characters could really have used some building up and fleshing out but this is BOOM! Comics and they’ll have no such thing! Mr. Abnett is at the writing helm, what there is of it, and also lends his pen to three minimalistic vignettes at the end of the book which were rather quaint and reminded me of the Sgt. Rock stories of old. In any case, if you’re looking for VERY mindless mayhem and some pretty consistent art, pick this one up. ( )
