A few poems here that I really liked, such as "The Clocks of the Dead." Simic specializes in surreal, short poems that make a turn in the last line or stanza. Certainly worth checking out. ( )

Charles Simic, recently appointed poet laureate of the United States, is a treasure. This book is a great introduction to his more recent work. Full of dark, impish, malevolent fun, these poems have an unmistakable Eastern European flavor that is both delicious and nourishing. ( )
