Feels a bit of a holding book, just keeping the characters ticking over, but actually it's quite interesting and quite a fast finish. Mercy was only just starting to recover from the dramatic conclusions of the last book when her Vampire 'friend' Stefan turns up in her home as close to re-dying as is possible for a vamp to get. It's thought worth her trying to get out of town for a bit while the werewolves intervene with the local vamp Boss. Coincidently and only slightly suspiciously and old friend has got in touch asking for help with a ghost in her home, something that Mercy had a little reputation for. The town is thought to only have 1 vampire: powerful but relatively reclusive and antagonistic to Mercy's Boss, and hence safe enough for a couple nights. Of course he turns up on the first dinner. I enjoyed this, Marcy managed pretty much on her own with friends there, but not taking over. It expands her abilities but only along existing lines, and so keeps everything believable. 2786 I'm probably the minority here but I would have rather she hooked up with Stefan Bumped this up to 5 stars upon rereading. What was I thinking the first time I read it, only giving it 4 stars? There’s so much delicious Stefan and Adam stuff, and, between what was happening in Spokane and the Tri-Cities, it was quite the page-turner. I’d forgotten a lot of the plot for this book, and it was fun to revisit this stage of Mercy’s life and note how events tie into future books. And I loved brave little Chad! no reviews | add a review

The theme was "only Mercy could go to a city with over a million people and get bitten by the only vampire there". (
