A bit torn on this one. It is my 3rd mistress of the art of death book and I enjoy the series. The use of the Arthurian legend is very effective, and characters were all fun and interesting. I found the monks death inthe opening of the book especially moving…. The denouement/ solution was less satisfying to me… as a rapid change of heart by the one character seemed a bit of a stretch to me.
Still, all in all a great read ( )

Third in the "Mistress" series, and unfortunately, it's been a while since I read book 1 and I've somehow skipped book 2 [return][return]My discomfort at the modern terminology has been lessened from Book 1, primarly because she does little around dead bodies in this book - most of the story revolves around her investigations over 2 bodies discovered after Glastonbury burns down. King Henry II wishes these can be claimed to be King Arthur and Guinevere, to help put down the rebellious Welsh. ( )

I liked the basic premise of this 3rd book in the Mistress of the Art of Death series but at times, Adelia's behaviour struck me as improbable. It has been a while since I read the first 2 books in this series so I don't remember if this was how she behaved earlier...

Kate Reading did a good narration. ( )

Book description
1176- The monks of Glastonbury have discovered two skeletons buried in their graveyard - one is tall, like that of a warrior, the other small and delicate. Are these the remains of King Arthur and Guinevere?

On hearing of the discovery, King Henry II demands evidence that the legendary Arthur is dead – he needs to stop his belligerent Welsh subjects believing that their Once and Future King will return to lead them against him.

So, he calls upon his Mistress of the Art of Death, the anatomist Adelia Aguilar, to examine the bones. But someone doesn’t want the skeletons identified – and is prepared to kill in order to prevent it…
