Good story about a boy in Sudan. People have Muslim names but no mention of Islam. However, there is nothing negative about Islam either. OK.

Book description
Omar’s father lends the camel drive from the Sudan to Egypt twice a year. It is young Omar’s dream to go with his father on the long, hard journey across the Sahara, and he begs to be taken along as a herder. But when Omar makes friends with one of the young camels during the drive, he forgets the promise he has made to his father.
