"Confronting Reality" will change the way you think about and run your business. It is the first book that shows how to connect the big picture of the new era of business with the nitty-gritty of what to do about it. Through a completely new way to understand and use the business model as the primary tool for confronting reality, a breakthrough that will become the management innovation of this decade, you'll know sooner rather than later whether your fundamental business premise is under assault, where your best opportunities lie, what you should change and what you should leave alone, and how to realistically plan the future of your business. The fundamentals of how a business makes money are being rapidly and permanently altered by sweeping structural changes. With their extraordinary depth and breadth of experience, Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan are the ideal guides for everyone: entrepreneur, mid-level manager, or CEO, about what is to be done so you can get things right in the challenging, radically changing world.… (more)

This book promotes common sense: stepping out of the center of the activity and asking questions about what you are really doing, really trying to accomplish in your business. It offers some practical and easy enough instructions on how to accomplish this. The overarching concept can be carried into your personal life - setting long term, short term goals and figuring out just how you wish to conduct yourself. ( )

An excellent resource for understanding on organizational development and choosing what priorities to execute on.

This is such an appropriate book for these days as we look at American companies from finance through automobile manufacturing in big trouble. What business are you really in...what is the future, not the past. It could also be applied to personal lives as well as business.

Not every Amazon reader liked the book, dismissing it as just safe studies, but some did

An example

Larry Bossidy was legendary at General Electric, Honeywell, and Allied Signal. He and consultant, Ram Charan, have written two books based on his experience and his effectiveness. The first book was Execution: The Art of Getting Things Done. I believe that for most folks, especially in small to mid-size businesses, Confronting Reality is a more effective book. As a consultant and a leadership trainer, I found that confronting reality is one of the things that is very hard to get people to do. As human beings, we seem to be programmed to see the world the way we want it, rather than the way it is. The result is that we need to have some kind of a method for determining what reality is.
