I thought it was ok but I still want to know what happened to Luxa. They should have sent someone to go find her instaed of waiting to see if she'd show up. I wish there was an illustrator for this book because it was a tiny but hard to visualize. ( )

Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, by Suzanne Collins is a fantasy that is a continuation of Gregor the Overlander, Gregor learns about his role in yet another prophecy in the underland. he promises to never return the the underland until his little sister gets taken. he returns the underland to be reunited with all of his allies as well as some new one. He makes life and death decisions as he tries to find his sister and to take out a rat known as Bane.
Personal Reaction: I liked this book much more than the first.
Classroom extension ideas:
Read book and leave off at good cliffhangers.
Let them guess by drawing what they think will happen next.

I liked this book and I still think that Suzanne Collins is an awesome writer even though this is a children's book I love it! And I can't wait to get the next book in the series. ( )

Gregor is back in the Underland due to a new prophecy that pits Gregor against the Bane, a white rat that could be the undoing of the entire Underland. The way the prophecy is interpreted it looks as though either the Bane will die or Boots so there is a lot riding on this quest. This time Gregor must travel by boat through the waterways and reach a labyrinth.

This book was a lot more introspective then the previous Underland Chronicles book. Many of the characters are still dealing with the aftermath of the previous Quest and you can easily see how it affects them. Luksa and Ares are easily the most affected as both of them were dealt the biggest blow by Henry's betrayal. Because of the aftermath from the last story and because of horror of potentially losing Boots this story felt much darker then the last tale. There was still a lot of horror but the heaviness of the story definitely made it lose a little bit of the humor caused by the gross out factor from the last book.

Although the ending is a little bit happier and lighter there are obviously still more adventures to come and it does seem as though the series will continue on a darker bent. This feels like a trend with Collins after reading the Hunger Games books. I am curious to see whether I am right or not so I have already ordered the next book in the series from the library.
