This respected work has now been updated to a fourth edition to take account of the many changes in legislation and practice that have taken place in the last few years. Following the death of Professor Jack Garner, one of the originators of the book, his co-author, Brian Jones, has been joined by leading experts Julian Palmer and Angela Sydenham in the preparation of this new edition. The aim of the book remains the same as its predecessors; it is to offer a lucid assessment, in terms appropriate for both the specialist and the more general reader, of how the laws of England and Wales seek to tackle the twin objectives of protecting the countryside and its wildlife from irreparable harm whilst, at the same time, acknowledging and accommodating the public's demand to use the countryside for recreation, leisure and other purposes.
