I would never have thought you could write three different stories around a dead mouse, and how one town came to love that mouse and would do anything to protect him. But that is exactly what happens in these three stories. Maxie, the world's largest field mouse, is an honor this town takes to heart.

In the first story, you have Carrie Evans who moves back to this town because she has inherited a house from her grandmother. Carrie has an uncommon fear of mice, and has a house that is full of them and needs a complete remodel. So she finds a carpenter and he ends up being her knight in shining armor when it comes to rescuing her from the mice. They will also try to figure out how to solve a murder mystery. I found it quite humorous how many people came forward that killed the man in this story.

In the second story you have Bonnie Simpson (most all of the character are in each story), who runs the Melnik Historical Society Museum (where the stuffed mouse is on display) and who discovers another dead body. She will find help in the oddest of ways and find love.

In the third story Tyler (brother of Bonnie) moves back to Melnik as the town lawyer and will represent a new woman in town, Maddy, when she is accused and jailed (numerous times) for another murder. I had to laugh at how many times she is jailed and then let go. This story is also all about the town mouse.

As stated earlier, I would have thought the whole "mouse as the main character" would wear out eventually, but I actually liked them all. A lot of humor in this town and the unusual people who live there. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
Dedicated to:

Lois Crinklaw and Clark and Anna --
Lois's terror of mice exceeds my own, which makes me feel far closer to normal.

Linda Swenson and Jim, Amanda, Chris, Samantha, Alex, and Nick.
Linda helped me chase a mouse once. It was a one-time act of courage. Lois sat on the couch with her feet up.

And Mardell Connealy, who could teach classes on how to be properly afraid of mice. I'd be an A+ student.
