If the series is read out of order, the book provides a nice synopsis of the situation established in book one. The crux of the series is goblins have stolen all of the fairies’ musical instruments; it is therefore up to two girls Rachel and Kirsty to help the fairies get their stolen items back. In Ellie the Guitar Fairy, the girls assist Ellie in finding the guitar. This is not a difficult task since the villain goblin tells the girls his itinerary for the day once he finds out that they are in cahoots with Ellie. There is not much suspense in this book, but rather its appeal is based on ordinary girls working with fairies to fight crime. An example of this appeal is at one point Ellie shrinks Rachel and Kirsty and gives them wings to quickly fly across town. An inconsistency of the Rainbow Magic Music Fairies series is that Ellie the Guitar Fairy and Maya the Harp Fairy are the only 2 of the 7 who do not have names which alliterate with their instruments.
