The story is set in an island prison where four men spend a final night together awaiting execution the following morning for their role in a plot against the monarchy. Again, I do not know how to describe the story further without revealing too much, but please read this book if you have a chance. The writing and translation are superb; it is a classic for good reason.
If I were more knowledgeable about the world of Italian literature I would write an article comparing Night's Lies to the Luther Blissett novel Q. In my mind there is a clear line connecting the two. ( )
