I know most people really love both the Sookie Stackhouse books and TV show but I do not. I tried reading this series several times and could never get past the first book. I do not enjoy either the characters or the story line. It seems like the sort of book I would like but I just don't. ( )

I didn't see these books listed separately, so I'll just review the seven together. I love this series. This writer doesn't take us to rich people's houses who don't have a clue what the real world is like. She takes us to the deep south to see through the eyes of Sookie, a waitress, who is always struggling to keep her job, keep her car running and have enough to make ends meet. The characters are real people, with real problems complicated by some otherworldly type of problems. Even the otherworldly has to deal with real world issues, which is what makes it so approachable to any audience and a lot of fun and suspense. It's not chauked full of sex and romance and all that stuff we'd all like to think really existed, but have never seen proof of. They are all hard to put down once you start them, so reserve some time, cook a few meals ahead to heat up and sit back and enjoy! ( )

The pace is very quick however this can be attributed to Sookie being active during the day and at night. The style of writing is very simple and honest and definately brings the feel of how Sookie would think however the world feels skewed with her perspective only. I would have enjoyed this universe more without the first person narrative. It's a good read however I'm not sure if I will be drawn to reread it as a favourite. ( )

This box set was a gift. Doubt I would'a bought it myself but glad it was given to me. I don't read them in the proper order, just grab one every now and then and let it freak me out. The prose styled adds a lot to the book series that only comes across in some of the tv episodes. Overall, this is one of the most original and fascinating series anybody's ever put out there. ( )
