such a short book...so much emotional wallop! (and a suprisingly wonderful performance by michael c. hall!) ( )

I remembered enjoying the movie, but I hated this book. It was hard to get into, even with C. Michael Hall's narration. I didn't like the story or the characters as they were not likeable--particularly Holly. And don't get me started on the poor cat, who had no name and deserved better. I figured I would adore the book since I liked the movie; however, I am now beginning to rethink my enjoyment of the film. ( )

I usually never watch the movie first. In fact, I avoid doing so, but in this case I did, for what reason I am not sure. I am an Audrey Hepburn fan; I loved her in the role of Holly Golightly. For me she was Holly, although I have heard that she found this role difficult. Reading this novella for the first time many years after first watching the movie, I found the character of Holly as portrayed by Hepburn much richer than the Holly developed in the story. But the story itself, the relationships described and Holly's independence, seem radical for its time and foretelling of the future. I almost felt as if I was reading a script for a movie, which would depend on the actor to bring the character to life. ( )
