As other have said, with regard to Mackenzie's Mountain I just cannot believe people acting like this in 1989. With regard to Mackenzie's Mission the heroine behaves totally TSTL in the end, which doesn't fit in with the rest of the book or her character.
Otherwise, compelling relationships and writing, so grades B- & B. ( )

Can't go wrong with any of this series ( )

incredible series; Mountain is a little outdated but great story and heartfelt; Mission continues on with Joe and touching. very classic Howard. ( )

Of the two novels in this volume, the second one (Mackenzie's Mission) is more compelling, and by far the more disturbing. A Navy pilot who is half Indian has an affair with a woman scientist. This woman feels the rhythm of the plains in his heartbeat and is drawn to the restless warrior inside him, imagines herself riding across the prarie with him, his hair flowing in the wind.

Gag me. No spoon needed.
