Her mother Dora would often play the piano for Isadora and her four siblings. Dora took Isadora to ballet lessons one day, but we find out that Isadora did not enjoy standing on her toes. She thought that was ugly. Soon after she came up with her own activity to do and that was to teach the neighborhood kids in her home town dancing lessons. The parents of these children soon started to paying Isadora for her work. When Isadora left home at seventeen she performed the dances she enjoyed doing and making it into her own. Many people were horrified by the way she dressed on stage and by the way she was dancing, but many also found her dance to be amazing. Eventually Isadora wanted to start her own dance school where she could teach and train dancers in her own style of dance. Isadora started a school called Yellow House where she accepted twenty young girls ranging from the ages four to eight. The girls dressed exactly like her and they became the Isadorables. As time past Isadora eventually had kids but a tragedy happened and they were killed due to drowning. Isadora became depressed and stopped dancing for a while. As time passed she knew she must dance again and did one last concert in Paris. I enjoyed reading about Isadora and her life. I felt the book gave creative pictures to refer to when reading. You could see what she was wearing and how beautiful it was on her. The book also organized her life in a way it flowed nicely. ( ) Isadora Duncan was a significant figure not only in the world of dance but within the arts as well. She grew up feeling as if dance was meant for movement, coming straight from the soul, untouched and free. She was able to take one proper ballet class and came to the realization that she dreamed of a different dance unlike nothing that has been seen before. A style where you were never told what to do, how to pose or what to wear. A way to express the feelings and emotions of humanity. After reading this book I can look back on Isadora’s history and see that at the time she was then creating the amazing and freeing style of dance we have come to know today as contemporary. A style based almost solely on movement with very little technical skill involved. As a dancer myself I found this book extremely interesting because, to this day contemporary is my favorite style to both watch and perform. It is an experience that can only be described as therapeutic and that is exactly what this book describes. Another aspect I found interesting was seeing Isadora’s style of dance being compared to the strict of ballet. Five important facts about Isadora Duncan were that she was the youngest of four children. She began giving dance lesson before the age of ten. She danced her style as a fairy in A Midsummers Night Dream for two years. She did once perform alongside a corps de ballet and realized that the two very different styles did not at all work together. she also started her very own school where students were called “Isadorables”. The book itself appears to be very accurate in their facts and also very graphic and storyline rather than a biography. The organization offers key milestones in the life and story of Isadora Dunan. This book tells the story of the author "Isadora Duncan" She was a child when her mother took her to take ballet classes and she thought that dancing on her toes was ridiculous, but soon she saw how much she likes the ballet. The book also recounts the tragic death of her two sons. Age: 5 to 8 Source: Pierce Library Isadora is a girl that loves to dance, but her dance is like no other genre. She struggles with getting people to accept her style of dance. Eventually, she begins her own class following the way she dances. Now her style of dance has been incorporated in other styles. I would read this to my students showing that what you love and dream will come true if you work hard for it. no reviews | add a review
