Following the brief introduction which sets out the history of Pakistan, the book looks at the artists by geographical region. Each region has a short introduction and map showing the location of the paintings' subject, and each artist is represented by a thumbnail portrait, short resume and one or more examples of his or her work. Each painting has a brief description, but as with all the text on this book the description is about the place and not the artwork. There are around 70 artists represented, and while the subject matter is mainly the geography or architecture of the country the range of work and media is obviously very wide, but predominantly Western influenced; most of it dates from the 1990s. It is a quality production, illustrated throughout in full colour, with most of the 146 (excluding the thumbnails) illustrations full-page. ( ) no reviews | add a review
