A shifting, poetic, savage travel tale, twin narratives of travelling musicians, their stories overlapping but with only vaguely similar details, one revealing visions as lurid as they are unsavoury, the other corrupting truth with deliberate lies. Both are funny in very different ways, and there are unforgettable cameos by a host of pop culture icons as you've never seen or imagined them before.

Iconoclasm never tasted so dirty, yet behind the lurid fantasies, self-conscious charades and cynical outbursts there are passages that affect, confront and inspire. Not for everyone, so take my enthusiasm with a caveat particularly if you have a sensitive disposition, but I've had a blast with it on repeat reads. (
